When you think about a gym, many people seem to forget that hotels are a great option – and that’s whether you’re staying there, or to join and use on a regular basis. Good hotels pride themselves on the quality of the facilities they offer, and the gym is one area where they often splash out.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best hotel gyms in London. Even if you’re not looking to take out an annual membership, most offer day passes so you can check out the awesome facilities for a short amount of time…
Bvlgari Hotel Gym
The Bvlgari Hotel Gym, known at the WORKSHOP Gymnasium, is a chic, superbly equipped gym that not only offers the best in workout kit, but an awesome atmosphere to boot (plus you might even brush shoulders with the odd celeb who works out here…).
Voted “best for first class futuristic fitness” in the 2015 Tatler Spa Guide, you can also take advantage of the weekly small group class that utilizes bodyweight movements and band work to create the ultimate body.
Berkley Hotel Gym
With its Knightsbridge location, the Berkley Hotel Gym and spa is not only a great place to work out, but also works on providing maximum inner peace as well.
Sure, there’s all the fitness equipment you’d expect, but in addition, there’s a rooftop pool, every spa treatment you can think of, and even a secret garden where you can sit and gaze over the expanse of Hyde Park that stretches into the distance below you.
Be prepared to never want to leave…
Milestone Hotel Gym
The Kensington located Milestone Hotel has a great health club that includes a gym, sauna, and resistance swimming pool. The downside to this gym is that it’s open to residents only, so to try it out you’ll need to book a room. But hey, who needs an excuse to have a weekend in London?
It’s certainly worth it, because it’s fab – and equipped with everything you’d expect from a top gym. Enjoy the tranquility here, and you can also take advantage of Pilates sessions arranged to suit you, as well as a personal yoga instructor.
In fact, if you’d prefer to do this in total isolation, then the health club can arrange for the instructor to come to your room! This is a gym that’s perfect for the person who likes to work out in peace…
Sofitel St. James Gym
The London Sofitel St. James Hotel gym – known as So Fit – is a calm, superbly equipped place in which to work away the stresses of the day.
In addition to the Technogym equipment, there’s also a Sha Chair that’s said to “activate your senses!” The gym itself offers different membership options: free to hotel guests, and one-day or membership options to anyone else from outside who wishes to use the facilities.
Corinthia Hotel Gym
Known as ESPAlife, the gym at the Hotel Corinthia prides itself on pure exclusivity (and at £15,000 per year for the top membership level, that’s certainly guaranteed!).
Thankfully, they offer a day spa package for those of us more normal souls, and this means that we too can experience a workout and spa day in a destination usually reserved for the super rich!
In addition to a state of the art gym, there’s an indoor swimming pool, sauna, ice fountain, vitality pool, and pretty much every spa treatment you could ever think of…
Claridge’s Hotel Gym and Spa
Just the name “Claridge’s” sends shivers down your spine, and their gym is every bit as good as you’d expect.
All the usual fitness machines are here, and the workout area is light and airy, with TV monitors and headphones provided (as well as towels, fruit, water, and juice to drink).
The best thing about Claridge’s gym is the personal, one on one training sessions they offer – at a pretty reasonable £110 per one hour session. Hotel guests have free access, but you can also join the club for £1800 per year (£1200 for off-peak).
Landmark Hotel Spa and Health Club
Located on the Marylebone Road, the Landmark Hotel Spa and Health Club offers state of the art fitness and relaxation facilities. The gym is jam packed with superb equipment, including Kinesis Station machines, a free weight section, training and stretching area, and a 15-metre indoor chlorine-free swimming pool.
You can also take advantage of the steam rooms, samarium and monsoon showers (a kind of less intense sauna), the relaxation room, and all the usual spa facilities you’d expect in a club of this calibre.
Hotel Café Royal Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre
In the very heart of London, in trendy Regent’s Street, the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre at the Hotel Café Royal offers a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, and spa.
You can also take advantage of the holistic classes on offer – tai chi, yoga, Pilates, and meditation.
As you’d expect, the facilities are free to use for hotel guests, and day spa packages start from £95. It’s also possible to join on a monthly or annual basis, but for this, a bespoke program will be tailored especially for you (contact the hotel directly).
The Dorchester Spa
Park Lane’s Dorchester Hotel Spa was fully refurbished and reopened a few years ago, and is based on the glamour of the Art Deco era.
As well as a state of the art fitness studio, you can relax in an indulgent Spatisserie, and even lounge beneath a chandelier of South Pacific pearls!
The spa offers the most luxurious of treatments with nine private rooms (two of which are double suites), a relaxation room, aromatic steam rooms, and male and female experience showers.
Naturally, all the facilities are open to hotel guests, but if you fancy a day using the spa (which includes the gym as well), then day packages are available to purchase. Or if you really want to splash out, membership costs £250 per month (spa treatments cost extra).
